Vash-Fanatic

To better know the American girl Vash-Fanatic, whose breathtaking World of Warcraft Arthas cosplay was found by us yesterday, we invite her also to join in our interview for cosplay talents. You may get inspirations for your cosplay performance from what she says below. A series of stunning cosplay pictures is also displayed here. As a girl who is especially interested in World of Warcraft, Vash-Fanatic is absolutely gifted in the performance art. Now, let’s begin.

1. Please introduce yourself first.

Hello! My name is April. I’m just an ordinary nerdy girl who plays video games (Especially WoW), collects action figures, reads comics, and of course, cosplays!

2. What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay means…hmm this is a tough question. I love bringing characters to life! When I am in costume I feel closer to the character. Plus, to take a step back and look at the results of all the hard work you put into those costumes is just..wow, I did that?! It’s just a really great feeling.

Yoko Cosplay

3. What and when was your first cosplay?

My very first cosplay back in 2005 for Anime Expo and it was Arcia from Chaos Legion.

4. What is your most memorable cosplay experience?

Most memorable cosplay experience is from this year’s Blizzcon! It was my first year wearing armor and being in a huge contest. But what made the experience special was meeting a whole bunch of other cosplayers out there who just did amazing work. They were all so nice and very talented.

5. What’s your favorite photo shoot?

My favorite shoot? This is a hard one. I always have fun at my shoots. But I think, as of right now, it would have to be my Sanzo shoot, with Abbott Wang.

Siesta Cosplay

6. What’s your favorite anime/manga/game character to cosplay as?

My favorite character to cosplay as is female Arthas. I LOVE love love Arthas. He is just one of the most amazing characters in World of Warcraft. (Fangirl session over).

7. Any cosplay plan in future?

Oh yes…there are many big costumes coming up this next year. They are all secrets right now though.

8. Do you make your costumes yourself or buy them?

Panty and Stocking Cosplay

9. Any other cosplayers you like?

There are so many cosplayers that I love! I can’t name them all, but just to name a few, Vensy, ShadowGlaive, Lorraine Torres, and so much more!

10. Do some changes happen to you after cosplay?

You learn something from each costume. Whether it be what type of glue didn’t work, what kind of things you can wear, how much better your sewing needs to be; it’s not so much changes to me, it’s more like..a learning experience. You gain more knowledge and come away with a lot more information and ideas than you did before.

11. Any advice you wanna share with cosplay newbies?

Never tell yourself you can’t do it. Yes, there are other cosplayers out there that will be better than you. You just can’t sit there and tell yourself you can’t do it, because you can. Never get discouraged and just do your best. It will be worth it in the end and a whole lot of fun!

Cosplayer Interview – Alicyana

Megurine Luka Cosplay

It’s our pleasure to invite cosplay talents to do interviews here. On Monday, we found the Italian girl Alicyana. Her Code Geass Emperor Lelouch Vi Britannia cosplay is cool, leaving a deep impression for many cosplay fans. Actually, she shows us many other stunning cosplay works in her gallery except this one. I also love her cosplay as Spain, Megurine Luka, Haruka Ten’ou and so on. If you are interested, don’t be hesitant to pay a visit to her gallery now. But here, let’s focus on what she says in the interview.

1. Please introduce yourself first.

Hi, I’m Alice! I’m from Cagliari, a city in the beautiful island of Sardinia, in Italy! I’m 20 and I’m studying in a fashion institute. I am a cheerful person and I love making friends around the world, even if my english is not so good XD.

2. What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is a beautiful hobby and a form of art, or, to be more precise, is a mix of different kind of arts: a cosplayer is a tailor, an hair-dresser, a painter, a sculptor, an actor. Cosplay is an awesome chance to learn a lot of beautiful things that can be useful for everyday life too! I’ve learnt so many things since I started and I have to learn more if I want to get better and better! Definitely, cosplay is not for lazy people! XD

Spain Cosplay

3. What and when was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was Kairi from Kingdom Hearts 2, wore for Carnival in 2007. It was made by a tailor friend of my mother. It was not so bad, but my hair and my shoes were completely wrong! And every time I watch the photos from back then I laugh so much at them!

4. What is your most memorable cosplay experience?

I had many beautiful moments and also bad memories about cosplay, but I remember the great emotion I felt when I went for the first time at Lucca Comics and Games. This convention is the biggest in Italy and going there was one of my dreams when I started to get interested in cosplay. Also, I loved going to Comicon, in Naples, the last year, with my beloved France shime: we had so much fun and knew so many beautiful people! But I think that for me every convention has it’s memorable moments, and every time I go on stage, I feel a big adrenaline rush! And I love it.

5. What’s your favorite photo shoot?

I think that the Sandplay of the dragon photos are the ones in which I look prettier XD. But the best photos I got are from the last costume I did, the Emperors version of Lelouch and CC!

Luka Megurine Cosplay

6. What’s your favorite anime/manga/game character to cosplay as?

Lelouch from Code Geass and Spain from Hetalia are my favorite characters and I want to do many versions of them!

7. Any cosplay plan in future?

Actually I’m working on my Franziska Von Karma costume for the next Lucca Comics, but for the next year I’m planning to cosplay as Sheherazade al- Rhaman form Trinity Blood and another one that is a secret project ;D

8. Do you make your costumes yourself or buy them?

When I started to cosplay I asked tailors I know to make them for me or I bought them on e-bay. Now that I’m studying fashion design I sew them myself: it’s more stressful but the satisfaction of doing them all by yourself is priceless.

Haruka Ten'ou Cosplay

9. Any other cosplayers you like?

I like very much many Italian cosplayers (our community is full of talented cosplayers!) like Angel Team, Selaine and Marika, and also foreign cosplayers like Yaya, kaiser-mony, Champagne-meat, Kaname, Skye… (there are too many xD)

10. Do some changes happen to you after cosplay?

I think I became a better person, calmer and nicer. And I knew so many friends that I love <3

11. Any advice you wanna share with cosplay newbies?

Ask, ask, ask! The best way to learn is ask advices to other cosplayers! And never give up! Even if it seems impossible to complete your costume, try till everything is done! Be patient and have fun!

Cosplayer Interview – Maridah

Fate Stay Night Saber Cosplay

Except Fate/Stay Night Saber cosplay found by us days ago, Maridah also shows us many other breathtaking cosplay pictures in her gallery. This American girl is absolutely a cosplay talent, having a more than 10 years’ background in the performing art field. She is a fan for anime & Star Wars, who loves to collect figures and dollfies. We are lucky to invite Maridah to join in our cosplayer interview. Now, let’s take a look at what she shares with us below.

1. Please introduce yourself first.

Hello! I’m Maridah. I’m a cosplayer living in California, USA and I’ve be cosplaying for a little over 10 years now.

2. What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is one of my favorite hobbies. I’m a long time anime fan, so it’s a sort of expression of fandom for me as well as an outlet that lets me be creative and have fun making and wearing costumes.

Dynasty Warriors Yue Ying Cosplay

3. What and when was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was Relena from Gundam Wing back in 2001.

4. What is your most memorable cosplay experience?

I’ve had too many good moments to count. I think the one that stands out to me most is the first time I wore my Saber armor to Anime Expo in 2009. I’ve never had such a mass of people around me before, taking pictures and talking with me about my costume. I was standing still for ages posing and there was a mass of people. It was pretty amazing to have that many people want to photograph my cosplay. The pride and enjoyment of that day sticks with me as a high point and encouragement for me on future projects. I want to get people as excited with my projects as I am about them, so it was a great moment. Cosplay is a great way to show you love something, so sharing it with others is the epitome of the craft to me.

5. What’s your favorite photo shoot?

My favorite shoot would probably be one I did with friends in September of 2010 in a Japanese traditional room for Fate/Stay Night costumes. We spent a lot of time cracking up and goofing around so it was a lot of fun. The photos are also some of my favorites.

Fate Stay Night Saber Cosplay1

6. What’s your favorite anime/manga/game character to cosplay as?

Saber from Fate/Stay Night or Lina Inverse from Slayers. Both are so much fun to wear and people really react well to both. It’s fun to see other fans of the characters like the costumes and want to take photos with me.

7. Any cosplay plan in future?

Quite a few! I’m always working on several costumes at a time. Right now I have 5-6 things in the works. I like to keep myself busy on multiple projects at a time so I don’t get bored or frustrated with just one of them. Sometime soon I’ll be debuting another Saber costume and some stuff from Vocaloid.

8. Do you make your costumes yourself or buy them?

I make all my costumes, props, and style my own wigs with the exception of my Mugi Summer School Uniform (K-On) which is modified from ‘found’ items. I love to sew and I have a background in theater so cosplay allows me to continue that craft in a small way.

Mayoi Neko Overrun Fumino Seizawa Cosplay

9. Any other cosplayers you like?

Of course! Quite a few, and probably too many to list. Vampy, Cosplay Kitten, Yuki le Fay, Pink Bunnie… if I start this list it might go on for a while…

10. Do some changes happen to you after cosplay?

Not really. I don’t adopt character personas like some cosplayers choose to do, but it certainly does give me a great adrenaline rush to be out in costume. I try to convey something of the character when I pose, though, even though I don’t act out a part. It’s just a fun experience and a way to be different from my normal self on the weekends.

11. Any advice you wanna share with cosplay newbies?

Cosplay what you love and do it with friends. Sharing the experience with people you enjoy being around makes it much better. Pick your favorite character and go out and enjoy the event. It’s impossible not to have fun if you just let yourself go and be silly for a while in costume.
