Star Wars The Force Awakens Rey Cosplay Tutorials Collection: Hair, Goggles, Staff and Costume

“There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?”
Bet no one did not. Star Wars: The Force Awakens excites the world fans, at the same time, our prominent female Jedi Rey shows up. What’s more exciting? Cosplay her! Here we summed up a complete cosplay tutorial for Rey’s hair, goggles, staff and costume

1.Making goggles
As a Jedi, Rey’s goggles is kind of the epic part of her whole look. Blue lenses would help a lot, but let’s trying to make it solid and detailed

Thanks for Juliaeisler,  she shered tips for making the Rey’s  goggle on Instructable, you may not want to miss this.To create these, you’ll need two different pairs of goggles, pair one and pair two.Remove the blue lenses from the first pair and attach them onto the second using E6000 glue before covering them in linen fabric. Place beige felt over the line to enhance the authenticity of the googles and to help give them the proper shape. Add gray felt to the top and the bottom of the goggles.

To give the goggles their distinctive detailing, using craft leather you can add on the character’s rusty leather pieces using glue. Then use a black permanent marker to draw on the markings around the lenses. With black and gray spray paint and a sponge you’ll be able to customize the goggles to look the way that you want.

Here  Matt Shanley,  his tutorial for making the Rey’s  costume is really helpful and detailed.
For Rey’s shirt, use a white Chiffon tank and cut it into a V-neck. Sew the edges on the neckline. This shirt should be billowy and long enough to sew the dress onto. Spray this dress with the brown, black, and beige on the edges and leave the center white.
For this project, 13 yards of beige Cotton Gauze fabric were used. This was the most expensive part of the costume, but well-worth the investment. It billows nicely and is translucent to the light coming through, but thick enough to be opaque if pleated.

First, pin all of the pieces onto a dress form to achieve the perfect fit or drape around yourself and pin as you go. Save yourself some trouble and have someone help with this. Pinch the fabric into pleats in to gather at the shoulders. Drape the gathered fabric across the chest.Rey costume

Sew the four pieces of fabric onto the white shirt and place it where it would fit on my body. This will keep it from unraveling. Take the additional pieces and sew them to pieces that you already sewed on. This is where you can get most creative because you are able to fit this exactly to your body.
Take the “shirt” off and place it back onto a dress form or lay out flat and spray it with black, brown, and beige to give it more dimensions. Highlight the shoulders and the four ends of the fabric more to make them stand out. Once it dries, wet it in cold water and toss it in the dryer so it isn’t as stiff.
Beige linen fabric can be used as cowl, just Place the cowl around your head like a headscarf and pin it in the back. Then use the two ends to twist around your head and pin on one side and used the other side to drape around your neck and shoulders.

Easier way for Rey’s pants, just find alike Bohemian-style pants, and Spray it with black, brown, and almond paint to give them more dimension

For belt, find ones that match the black shading on the outside and the rusty brown in the center. Or use paint on brown belts to match the look.

As to Arm and Leg Wraps: Use leftover Cotton Gauze fabric for the arm and leg wraps. Spray them with black, brown, and silver to give an aged look. Cut them into four pieces and sew or safety-pin them to the shirt and pants for them to stay in place when moving around.

3.Making staff

Rey has the staff because it is all she can afford, there also are many options  for cosplyers , but if you want it as detailed as it’s in the movie, kylegilbert’s tutorial is the very example for you. Some daily materials like showerhead, conduit, cord and canvas were used.

4. Hair
After watching the movie, Rey’s Triple buns can hardly be overlooked. The hairstyle seems easy to operate, but if you are not good at this stuff, it still got your troubled; here we are sharing Silvousplaits’ s video

Finally, before you posing for shooting put on some makeup. Unlike many other characters, Rey’s makeup is very natural and bronze. So a strong brow, bronzer on the cheeks, and light brown on the eyes finish the look.

How to Make One Punch Man Genos Arm For Cosplay

Blond Cyborg! Yes, you did not hear it wrong; One Punch Man Genos becomes possible to cosplay in a simple way. Here we are providing a step-by-step tutorial specified for Genos cosplay arms.

Materials: cutter, pencil, glue, compass, set square, EVA panels of 3mm and 5mm thickness, and most importantly, your hands!

First step: making basic patterns of shoulder pieces, upper arms and forearms. Here 3mm EVA sheets were used as sketchpad, and other materials like paperboard or Kraft paper are also workable.

Draw patterns, after done, redo the drawing on EVA panels of 5mm thickness.
For symmetrical pieces, flip side.

Cut off the basic pieces along the line, better not to use scissors or the sunken cutting edge will lead to joint gaps when gluing.

Glue the pieces together. If the pieces need to be in tubby or curve shape, bend them with hands beforehand. This process will make gluing easier.

When finishing the main piece gluing, you can get started at making the patterns of decorative design. Draw figure lines according to the base pieces first.

Similarly, re-drawing the figure and cut them into shape.

Glue the decorative pieces and fit them with main pieces like the following picture.

Pin the rivet on the forearm pieces as pictured, while use electric soldering iron to carve the figure line of shoulder pieces.

Use heat gun to blow all over the parts, which will improve the hardness and shaping of the EVA, at the same time, the pores at EVA surface will shrink.AKK

Base coat: chassis armor paint of car use was chose, as it’s of larger granules and can greatly resemble the iron effect. Also the surface treatment of white glue paint can be saved.

Metallic coloring : Before the black pant get dry, quickly spray Chromium plating color on the surface, and let the two pants mixed together.AMM

If you have come to this step, congratulations! You are finishing the Genos Cyborg arm, what’s next? Put on and posing for cool photo shoot!

My Big Wow Comic Fest 2015

This Post is submitted by Evel Fett Cosplay , amazing!

Day 1:

Big Wow Comicfest 2015 was held in the San Jose Convention Center on April 1819. This is one of my favorite conventions to attend. It is for true comic book fans and cosplayers. There had to be at least 5,000 people waiting to receive their badges the first day of arriving at Big Wow. The Big Wow staff was on point! Took about 15 min to enter and get into the site. The crowd was high with anticipation! There was everything from cosplay, geeks, nerds, and comic fans all awaiting for the door to open. The door opens and everybody rushes in like wild animals. “geeked out” and not knowing where to go first, I decide to hit cosplay roll to see the professional cosplayers booth. I saw one of my closes friends there, Vegas Power Girl (@VegasPG) Snapped some pics and chatted it up with her. I found out that she will be doing a panel on Sunday. I then interviewed her for Then exchanging some kisses, I said bye, and moved on to the other awesome things Big Wow had to offer.

My favorite comic book illustrator Frank Cho. Greeting the wonderful Frank, we exchanged the great news that I am teaming up with to be there Convention Reporter. As Frank high fived me he said “See all that hard work paid off bro!” Frank was teasing me and told me to not miss his panel, and i said “Frank I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world.”I was then fighting through the crowd to go and try to see the Back to the Future Delorean, and the Ecto One from Ghostbusters. I snapped a lot of great pictures.

Next, I headed to the panels, the most important one for me was “Cosplay Stars”. It was a great panel and super informative. The panels was lead by some of the biggest stars of cosplay, and all I can say is you had to be there!

Day 2:

The crowds were bigger, the costumes were better, and anticipation was greater. I debuted my newest creation from Dragonball Z, Mr. Satan and my bro Mark was Ox king. We were huge hits! We could not go for one second without being stopped. Frank Cho’s panel was just unbelievable! He is not only the best artist that Marvel and Dc has ever had, but also the most hilarious guy alive. This year was a little different than most years, instead of Frank drawing or sketching Ivy Doomkitty, Frank drew cosplay superstar Riddle who was cosplaying as spider women.

Overall Big Wow is one of my favorite conventions and something i will never miss! It is definitely something that you have to see!

Signing out,
